Dying Beyond Their Means
A film by Isaki Lacuesta.
Five desperate, common citizens from a fictitious country pretty much identical to Spain see their lives ripped apart by a global financial crisis. With nothing left to lose, they concoct a crazy plan to save their country’s—not to mention the world’s—economy: kidnap the chairman of the Central Bank and demand that he somehow restore everything to the way it used to be. Is their plan so naïve that it just might work? A dark and rowdy comedy about a country pushed to the economic brink and the everyday radicals who endeavor to save the day by any means necessary.
Isaki Lacuesta was born in Girona in 1975. He studied Audiovisual Communication at the Autónoma University of Barcelona. After completing a Master’s degree in Creative Documentary at the Pompeu Fabra University, he released his first feature film in 2002, entitled ‘Cravan vs Cravan’. It received awards at various international film festivals and was recognised by the critics as the best debut work of the year when it won the RNE Sant Jordi award. He continued working, writing and film scripts and creating short films and artistic installations. His following films –’La Leyenda del Tiempo’ (2006), ‘Los Condenados’ (2009) and ‘La Noche Que no Acaba’ (2010)– were also highly acclaimed in various competitions. In 2011, he won the Concha de Oro award at the San Sebastián Film Festival with ‘Los Pasos Dobles’, a feature film starring Miquel Barceló. He also produces contributions for the press and combines film with teaching.
